Questions, answers, and questionable restraint

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Gooey Duck candles, without making it weird. Actually, maybe a little weird. We use a paraffin-free custom soy blend, premium clean fragrance oils, and enough attitude to make your room smell like it has standards.

What kind of wax do you use?

We use a paraffin-free custom soy blend built for a clean, reliable burn, smooth finish, and solid scent throw.

Translation: it burns nice, smells good, and does not have that mystery gas-station candle energy.

Do your candles contain paraffin wax?

No. Our candles are made with a paraffin-free custom soy blend.

Are your candles 100% soy?

We use a custom soy blend, not straight soy and not paraffin. Soy is the foundation, and the blend helps with burn quality, consistency, scent throw, and overall performance.

Basically, soy is great. Soy with a little backup plan is better.

What kind of fragrance oils do you use?

We use premium clean fragrance oils selected for strong scent throw, smooth performance, and bold scent profiles.

We do not publish our fragrance suppliers or exact oil sources, because some secrets should stay between us, the wax, and whatever bad decision led you here.

Are your candles “clean”?

We use a paraffin-free custom soy blend and premium clean fragrance oils. We are not pretending to be a spa brand in linen pants, but we do care about what goes into the candle.

Are your candles heavily scented?

They are designed to smell bold without punching you in the throat.

Our scents lean woodsy, smoky, salty, warm, coastal, and masculine-leaning — not floral spa lobby, not powdery grandma drawer, not “fresh linen is my personality.”

What sizes do your candles come in?

We have three levels of commitment:

  • Short Pour — 8 oz matte black aluminum tin with lid, double wick. Small pour. Double wick. Still a bad influence.
  • Tall Boy — 16 oz beer can glass, single wick. A single wick with tall-can energy.
  • Heavy Pour — large matte black glass, 3 wick. Three wicks. Big throw. Questionable restraint.
Which candle size should I choose?

Short Pour is the easy yes. It is great for trying a scent, gifting, smaller rooms, bathrooms, desks, and situations where you want the room to smell better without making a whole thing of it.

Tall Boy is the middle move. Taller glass, single wick, casual giftable energy, and enough presence to look like you planned ahead.

Heavy Pour is the big one. Three wicks, bigger room presence, stronger visual impact, and less emotional availability.

How long should I burn my candle the first time?

Let the wax melt all the way across the top before blowing it out. This usually takes about 2 to 4 hours, depending on the candle size.

That first full melt pool helps prevent tunneling, which is candle-speak for “you rushed it and now it is being dramatic.”

How long can I burn a candle at once?

Do not burn any candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

Give it a break. Give yourself a break. Everybody cools down.

Should I trim the wick?

Yes. Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn.

A trimmed wick helps the candle burn cleaner, keeps the flame under control, and prevents the vessel from looking like it made poor life choices.

Why is my flame too high or smoky?

The wick probably needs trimming, or the candle has been burning too long.

Blow it out, let it cool, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch, and relight when ready. Do not try to fix a candle while it is burning unless you enjoy bad ideas with consequences.

Why does my candle look slightly different from another one?

Wax has moods. Temperature, cooling, fragrance load, and normal production variation can all create slight differences in texture, color, or surface appearance.

Small cosmetic differences are normal and do not mean your candle is broken, haunted, or emotionally unavailable.

Why is there wax left at the bottom?

That is intentional. Stop using the candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains.

Candles are not designed to burn all the way to the bottom. That leftover wax helps prevent the vessel from overheating, which is less fun than it sounds.

Can I reuse the vessel?

Usually, yes — once the candle is fully finished, cooled, and cleaned out properly.

Do not microwave it. Do not pour hot wax down the sink. Do not make this weird. Remove the remaining wax safely, clean the vessel, and reuse it for small storage, desk stuff, bathroom stuff, or whatever little chaos needs a home.

Are your candles safe around pets?

Use common sense. Keep candles away from pets, kids, tails, paws, curtains, loose sleeves, and anyone who says, “Relax, it’s probably fine.”

Never leave a burning candle unattended. Burn on a stable, heat-safe surface in a well-ventilated area.

Can I leave a candle burning while I leave the room?

No. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Not even for a minute. That is how “cozy” turns into “insurance paperwork.”

Do your candles actually smell good, or are they just funny?

Both.

The name gets the laugh. The paraffin-free custom soy blend and premium clean fragrance oils earn the second burn. That is the whole point.

What kind of scent profiles do you make?

We lean into bold, masculine-leaning scent profiles: smoke, cedar, bourbon, leather, salt air, coffee, amber, driftwood, oak, spice, musk, and other scents that do not smell like a hotel lobby trying too hard.

Are these only for men?

No. They are for anyone who likes bold scents, questionable humor, and rooms that smell like they have standards.

The brand leans rugged and masculine, but the candle does not check your ID at checkout.

Are your candles good gifts?

Yes. Especially for people who like woodsy scents, smoky rooms, coastal grit, inappropriate jokes, and pretending their home smells this good naturally.

They are funny enough to get a reaction and good enough to actually use.

Do you make custom candles?

Not currently. We are focused on our core scent lineup and making sure every candle smells like it has standards, even if the name does not.

Do you have a storefront?

No public storefront right now. Gooey Duck Candle Co. is an online shop, which means we ship the questionable decisions directly to your door.

How do I care for my candle?

Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before each burn. Let the wax melt fully across the top during the first burn. Do not burn longer than 4 hours at a time. Keep it away from drafts, pets, kids, and unstable surfaces.

Light it. Let it melt. Pretend this was all part of the plan.

What if my candle arrives damaged?

Take photos of the damaged item and packaging, then contact us as soon as possible.

Broken glass is not the vibe. Good smells are. We will review the issue and help with a replacement or solution.

Do you accept returns?

Because candles and apparel are personal-use products, returns may be limited. If something arrives damaged, wrong, or clearly not right, contact us and we will help make it right without turning it into a whole courtroom drama.

Where do you ship?

We ship to the locations available at checkout. If your address works at checkout, congratulations — questionable decisions are headed your way.

Can I send a candle as a gift?

Yes. Our candles are made for gifting, especially when you want something useful, funny, and slightly inappropriate without crossing into “why did you send me this?” territory.

Will the scent fill a whole room?

That depends on the candle size, room size, airflow, and scent profile.

  • Short Pour works best in smaller spaces.
  • Tall Boy gives you more presence for regular use.
  • Heavy Pour is built for bigger room-read and stronger presence.

Pick your level of commitment accordingly.

Still confused? That is fair. Contact us and we will help you figure it out without making it a whole candle TED Talk.
